Announcement of national qualifier assignments and nationals bid allocations by event.

Referee Town Hall

The USQ Officials team will be hosting monthly town hall meetings on the second Tuesday of every month at 8 pm eastern time. These meetings can be used to get rules clarification, referee tips, and ask questions of the officials team. If you would like to attend these meetings, you can join via this GoogleMeet link during the set time: meet.google.com/dzr-typp-gjk. Reminders will also be shared closer to each town hall date.

Bid Allocation

As outlined in September’s gameplay update, USQ Gameplay has assigned national qualifier tournaments to collegiate and club teams, as well as allocated nationals bids to each tournament based on the number of teams attending. A list of teams assigned to each qualifier can be found further down this article.

Similar to last seasons, collegiate qualification for the competitive divisions at nationals relies more on bids earned at national qualifiers, with a small number of at-large bids available later in the season. Club competitive qualification relies more heavily on at-large bids, while a smaller number of bids are still available to be earned at national qualifiers.

Collegiate Division

Like last season, collegiate teams are generally limited to attending one qualifier. However, the USQ Gameplay team will prioritize ensuring there are enough teams at each tournament to provide a valuable set of games for attending teams, and as may make use of an exception that allows teams to attend an additional qualifier to help meet the minimum number of teams required to hold an event. USQ will follow up with teams and attempt to increase attendance at national qualifiers with 4 or fewer teams in attendance.

Based on the number of teams attending each collegiate qualifier and using the Huntington-Hill method, nationals bids are distributed as follows:

National Qualifier

 D1 Bids

 D2 Bids

Richmond - 5 teams

1

2

Bradenton - 4 teams

1

1

Boston - 12 teams

3

4

Champaign County - 12 teams

3

4

Placer Valley - 4 teams

1

1

Oklahoma City - 6 teams

2

2

In total, 11 Division 1 bids will be awarded throughout qualifier*. The remaining five Division 1 bids will be distributed through the at-large system after March 3, 2024. Teams who have earned a Division 2 bid at qualifier remain eligible to apply for at-large entry to Division 1.

In total, 14 Division 2 bids will be awarded throughout qualifier. The remaining two Division 2 bids, as well as any additional Division 2 bids left by teams moving up to Division 1 through at-large, will also be distributed through the same at-large system in March.

As a reminder, collegiate nationals will comprise three divisions: Division 1 (16 teams), Division 2 (16 teams), and Open (uncapped). Read more about this here.

*Only 11 will be awarded at qualifier due to the number of teams registered and region distribution; the math works out such that 12 bids cannot be fairly distributed, so USQ Gameplay team has decided to reduce the number of bids distributed and increase the number of at-large D1 bids by one.

Club Division

Nationals bids will be allocated to club national qualifiers on a rolling schedule, based on the number of club teams registered for the qualifier 3 weeks ahead of the event. Regionals with fewer than 8 teams will award one nationals bid, and those with eight or more will award two. The minimum number of club teams required to host a qualifier is four. There will be no club qualifier event at USQ National Qualifier: Bradenton.

Based on the number of teams currently assigned to each qualifier, seven bids would be distributed as follows:

National Qualifier

 Competitive Bids

Richmond - 5 teams

1

Bradenton - 0 teams

No event

Boston - 8 teams

2

Champaign County - 6 teams

1

Placer Valley - 8 teams

2

Oklahoma City - 7 teams

1

Club teams can continue to sign up to attend additional qualifier tournaments, and the above numbers may change accordingly throughout the season. The actual number of bids available at each qualifier will update based on registration until the 3 weeks ahead allocation cutoff for each event. Any remaining bids will be distributed through the at-large system after March 3, 2024, for a total of 20 teams. Club nationals will comprise two divisions: Club competitive (20 teams) and Club open (uncapped).
