US Quadball Cup 2023 Gameplay Format Announcement

Overview

As US Quadball Cup 2023 approaches, many have been waiting in great anticipation for the gameplay format to be released. The gameplay team has worked long and hard deliberating what format will be most appropriate for each division - and it’s finally ready!

As described in the Gameplay Policies & Season Structure article, the 5 divisions at USQ Cup 2023 are as follows:

  • College Championship- D1
  • Club Championship Division
  • College Competitive- D2
  • College Open Division
  • Club Open Division

As announced in the Recap of 2022-23 Regional Championships article, bids were awarded to teams during the season’s regional championships during the fall and spring through their performance at regionals. We have completed the process of distributing all remaining at large bids and finalized the number of teams for each division.

College Championship- D1

The College Championship Division (D1) has been revised to have 18 teams due to interest. As a result, we will have 4 pools: 2 pools of 4 and 2 pools of 5. Teams will play all other teams in their pool, with the top 3 teams in each pool advancing to bracket play. After all pool play games have finished on Day 1, the two 4th place teams of the 4 team pools will play a final game to provide a 4th nationals game. The 12 team bracket is shown below, and is also viewable here. Pools will be announced shortly after standings lock on March 27th, but A, B, C, and D refer to the pools of the highest, second highest, third highest, and fourth highest ranked D1 teams (respectively) when standings lock.

College Competitive-D2

The College Division 2 has 16 teams. The teams will be divided into 4 pools of 4 teams each. Teams will play all other teams in their pool, and then the top 2 teams in each pool will advance to bracket play. The 8 team bracket is shown below, and is also viewable here. Pools will be announced shortly after standings lock on March 27th, but E, F, G, and H refer to the pools of the highest, second highest, third highest, and fourth highest ranked D2 teams when standings lock.

The Club Championship division will have 20 teams as announced. Similar to the College Championship Division 1, the Club Championship Division will have 4 pools of 5 teams each. Teams will play all other teams in their pool, and then the top 3 teams in each pool will advance to bracket play. The 12 team bracket is available below, and viewable here. Pools will be announced shortly after standings lock on March 27th, but W, X, Y, and Z refer to the pools of the highest, second highest, third highest, and fourth highest ranked D2 teams when standings lock.

USQ Cup 2023 takes place April 15-16 at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Tickets are on sale now.

In July, USQ is co-hosting the IQA World Cup 2023. Support the US National Team in their fight to defend their title July 15-16 in Richmond, Virginia. Tickets are available here.
